Five Talents

The Randal Charitable Foundation proudly supports Five Talents.

Five Talents provides savings schemes, business, literacy and numeracy training.

They make use of an innovative savings-led microfinance that relies on community partners and enterprising members. Each of the programmes operate through experienced partners within the same communities the project aims to support. These are the people who understand the needs and aspirations of Group members and are trusted intimately within their local communities.

Five Talents and our partners works with the communities across rural eastern Africa, Asia and South America who have been marginalised and financially excluded. The charity’s partners support communities as they build Savings Groups – a Group where they can learn, earn, save and invest together. Often this is the first place communities can safely access financial services and business training.

Their model ensures Savings Group members own their capabilities to enhance their income, secure livelihoods and build resilience against financial shocks. Our mission is to transform lives through economic empowerment. And our vision is to eradicate extreme poverty by restoring human dignity and creating strong, sustainable communities.

To date, over 1 million people have benefitted from Five Talents programmes across 12 countries. Currently, over 30,000 members are learning, earning, saving and investing in their Savings Groups – building a more sustainable future for their families. In 2022 the Randal Charitable Foundation provided grant funding towards the programme in Marsabit, northern Kenya.

Savings Groups create long-term change. Members and their families experience an improvement in health, education and living standards; communities and individuals experience greater financial empowerment and inclusion; members experience greater confidence and sense of worth; and both communities and individuals demonstrate increased resilience in the face of shocks.

With support from the Randal Charitable Foundation, Savings Group members in Marsabit, Kenya will experience many of these impacts too.
